Stockholm Brexit 2018

den 10 december 2018, kl. 15:00

In all probability, the UK will leave the EU on 29 March 2019. For several months, the two parties have been negotiating a Withdrawal Agreement, but there are still some highly sensitive issues to be resolved – notably the problem of the Irish border. If a consensus is reached by the deadline set by the EU (October 2018), the Withdrawal Agreement will be signed then and it will be the main focus of the seminar.

Even so, that Agreement will expire at the end of 2020, so we will also consider with the possible arrangements for the longer term. If there is no Withdrawal Agreement, the seminar will be the occasion to discuss the forthcoming chaos and how ad hoc solutions can be found.

Peter Oliver was a Legal Advisor in the European Commission until 2014. Today he is a Visiting Professor at the Université Libre de Bruxelles, a barrister at Monckton Chambers (London) and a member of the Aarhus Convention Compliance Committee. He is also the author of over 80 publications on EU law, including Free Movement of Goods in the European Union (5th ed., 2010).
