The EU Nature Restoration Regulation (or ‘Nature Restoration Law’) proved highly contentious and was adopted with a very slender majority. This seminar considers challenges in the early stages of the Nature Restoration Law’s implementation, exploring examples from selected Member States.
The Nature Restoration Law aims to deliver on ambitious goals across extensive timescales, geographical scales and ecosystems, against a backdrop of mixed political and community support. Examining practical challenges connected to the Nature Restoration Law may provide lessons for the sound implementation of EU environmental and climate law and policy more broadly.
Professor Noreen O’Meara is Synnott Family Chair in European Union Law at University College Cork, Ireland. Noreen is a visiting professor at Stockholm University, contributing to the Masters in European Economic Law programme at the Faculty of Law. With research interests that cross-cut EU, human rights, climate and environmental law, she has particular expertise on connections between rights and the environment, environmental governance and pollution, and relationships between the EU and ECHR.
