At the seminar Iris Goldner Lang will talk about the EU financial crisis and its legal implications at the EU level, at Member States level and their interface. She will discuss the responses to the financial crisis in terms of financial assistance mechanisms and rules, and will particularly focus on the Treaty change, the ESM and the Fiscal Compact.
Treaty rules will be explored in view of EU constitutional limitations to certain economic measures and political changes. The seminar will open up the floor for a discussion on possible instrumentalization of EU law for economic and political goals. It will further address the question of whether the EU financial crisis is leading towards further integration and/or multi-speed Europe. The underlying issue of EU solidarity will also be taken into consideration.
